PARTNER CAMPS
There are five luxury camps within OLARE MOTOROGI CONSERVANCY, catering for anyone’s tented tastes. Porini Lion Camp and Kicheche Bush Camp being the Conservancy founder members were joined by Mara Plains Camp, Olare Mara Kempinski and Mahali Mzuri.
All offer exclusive wildlife-, campfire- and canvas experiences to their clients. None of these camps is larger than 24 beds and all abide by environmentally friendly guides of construction and operation in the Conservancy’s Code of Conduct.
Kicheche Bush Camp
Kicheche Bush Camp is located in a prime wildlife area in Olare Motorogi Conservancy, and game viewing starts right from the camp itself.
Six spacious, fully insect-proof custom designed tents, equipped with twin or double beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and a traditional safari bucket shower with a view. There are comfortable chairs on each verandah overlooking the plains. There is a spacious, well-furnished lounge and dining tent, although we prefer to eat alfresco if weather permits.
Kicheche cooks produce a variety of African and international dishes and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Fresh produce is flown in regularly and bread and pastries are baked daily. The small intimate camp lends itself to communal dining with your hosts, although private dining can be arranged.
Mahali Mzuri
Mahali Mzuri is perched on the side of a lush valley with views over the rolling plains. The camp is well placed to observe the abundant game in the area.
There are 12 luxury tented suites catering for a maximum of 24 guests at any one time. Each tented suite sits on a raised platform and includes a spacious bedroom with en-suite bathroom, sitting area and a large deck with breath-taking views over the landscape – perfect for spotting the game that will almost certainly wander into view!
In the centre of the 12 tents is the Main Tent. Here you will find our relaxing lounge with an open fireplace and a large decked area where breakfast and lunch will be served. Just a short distance from the Main tent is our 12-metre infinity swimming pool, big enough for a leisurely swim or a refreshing dip.
Our chefs have developed numerous pan-African dishes influenced by a variety of cultures, flavours and spices. Whether dining under the African sky in the open bush, on a deck or in the dining tent, our menus and meals promise to be exciting, social and inspirational.
Mara Plains Camp
Mara Plains Camp is a one-of-a-kind, seven tent camp. This intimate camp blends the finest in wildlife viewing with the absolute best of safari hospitality and guiding. Each guest at Mara Plains contributes considerably to the success of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy’s flourishing ecosystem; conservation fees paid safeguard this habitat, while supporting over 1,000 Maasai families. This partnership agreement ensures the survival of an astounding volume and variety of wildlife.
The camp is nestled in lush forest on the meandering bends of the Ntiakitiak River, and careful thought was given to every detail. Each of the seven tents has deep canvas canopied ceilings, rough hewn wood floors and accents of East Africa’s rich safari history. The well-appointed en-suite facilities (including a deep copper bath) plus the extensive private verandah complete what is genuinely a stunning concept. These stylistic elements coupled with thoughtful environmental elements such as solar power and no cement make Mara Plains a modern-day safari retreat.
By day and night, the camp is a sanctuary for resident species, including many of the Maasai Mara’s 300 bird species. After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp and Maasai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night’s chorus.
Olare Mara Kempinski
Nestled at the heart of Olare Motorogi Conservancy, the Olare Mara Kempinski Masai Mara promises all the luxury whilst delivering a classic under-canvas safari experience.
Surrounded by rolling savannah, across which wanders a glorious pageant of wildlife, this exclusive tented camp blends the welcome, simplicity and vibrancy of Maasai culture with the opulence of a five-star experience.
Featuring twelve tents, a central lounge and dining area, a tented bar set deep within a forested glade and a shaded swimming pool, the Olare Mara Kempinski delivers the ultimate fusion of untamed wilderness and sophisticated elegance. Meanwhile, action includes campfire cocktails, sundowners on the plains, game drives, guided walks, balloon safaris, horse-riding and a colourful range of cultural interaction.
Raised so as to enjoy optimum views, your opulent safari tent has been styled to echo the elegance of a traditional Edwardian hunting safari tent. Each tent offers a generously arranged seating area, and a wrap-around deck verandah. While promising every luxury, each tent delivers the authentic feel of an under-canvas safari experience – complete with the nightly whooping of the hyenas and the distant coughing of our resident lion prides.
Porini Lion Camp
Porini Lion Camp is located in a unique and stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. This large area borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara’s renowned Big Cats. There is unsurpassed game-viewing within the Conservancy due to its unspoiled natural state and the Porini Lion Camp – with just ten tents – ensures guests have a genuine “away from it all” experience deep in the African bush.
The high-quality, spacious tents are tastefully furnished and each has solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and a private verandah.
Game drives are in specially-designed off-road (4×4) safari vehicles with expert / qualified safari guides to ensure the best possible game-viewing. Guests particularly enjoy the drives within the Conservancy where they experience the wilderness without being surrounded by other tourist vehicles.
